Executive Director of the Wisconsin Council of Churches,
Ordained as a Teaching Elder on October 8, 2011.
We are honored to have Scott’s permission to post his story as the first among the many we hope to add to this website. Scott has faithfully served the denomination in a variety of capacities, including as an ordained Minister of Word and Sacrament. When his sexual orientation as a gay man threatened to cause controversy in his congregation, he set aside his ordination in 1990. The work of the Theological Task Force on the Peace, Unity and Purity of the Church (on which he served) made it possible for Scott to respond to God’s call to ordained service as a pastor. Scott’s ordination was further supported by the changes in the denomination with the passage of Amendment 10-A (now G-2.0104b). On October 8, 2011 the John Knox Presbytery ordained Scott to serve as a teacher elder in the PC(USA). We celebrate with the whole church now that Scott is able to serve in this capacity.
